Abuko National Park is a nature reserve in the Gambia lying south of the town of Abuko. It is a popular tourist attraction and was the country's first designated wildlife reserve.

Arch 22

Arch 22 is a commemorative arch on the road into Banjul in the Gambia. It was built in 1996 to mark the military coup d'etat which over threw the democratically elected government, and saw the rise to power on 22 July 1994 of President Yahya Jammeh and his Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council. The arch stands on the Banjul-Serrekunda Highway near to the traffic island which intersects with Box Bar Road, Independence Drive and Marina Parade.

Barra, Gambia

Barra is the non-traditional name of Niumi, the Gambia. Although Mandinka-speaking Africans always referred to the state along the north bank of the Gambia River's estuary as Niumi, not everyone did. For a long time it was called "Barra" in the creolized trade language of the river, and between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries British and French records use "Barra" or "Bar" more frequently than "Niumi".

Gambia River

The Gambia River is a major river in West Africa, running 1,130 kilometres from the Fouta Djallon plateau in north Guinea westward through Senegal and the Gambia to the Atlantic Ocean at the city of Banjul. It is navigable for about half that length. The river is strongly associated with the Gambia, the smallest country in mainland Africa, which consists of little more than the downstream half of the river and its two banks.

Geography of the Gambia

The Gambia is a very small and narrow country with the border based on the Gambia River. The country is less than 48 km wide at its greatest width. The country's present boundaries were defined in 1889 after an agreement between the United Kingdom and France. It is often claimed by Gambians that the distance of the borders from the Gambia River correspond to the area that British naval cannon of the time could reach from the river's channel.

Lamin, Western Division, Gambia

Lamin is the largest village in Kombo NorthWestern Division of the Gambia. A village with two large clans, Bojang, and Manneh, as the founders, and all the rest are considered "lountan" meaning "strangers" in Manidinko. There is a village leader, "AlKalo" who is from the lineage of the Bojang. Until recently the village was divided into zones marked by tribes, the Mandinkos in Sateba, the Jolas in Sanchaba, the Manjako in Wayoto and all the other tribes in Temasu.

State House of the Gambia

The State House is the official residence of the president of the Gambia. It was built in colonial days and was the residence of the governor of the Gambia. Then known as the Government House, it became the residence of the Governor General following Independence before republic status was attained. According to current president Yahya Jammeh, the British did not build the state house.
